Why it matters

A permanent lunar habitat signals sustained investment in Artemis and long-duration surface ops. That creates demand for habitats, robotics, power, comms, ISRU, and logistics that dual-use startups can serve.

NASA (@NASA) said it is building a Moon Base, introducing a dedicated NASA Moon Base (@NASAMoonBase) account and calling it a habitat where astronauts will live and work during long-term science missions, in a thread on X. The agency led with a plain-spoken promise: "We're building a Moon Base!"

As part of NASA Artemis (@NASAArtemis), the Moon Base is framed as a lunar habitat for long-duration exploration and science. Robotic missions will work alongside astronauts to study the Moon and help prepare for future Mars missions, NASA wrote in the thread.

NASA also set a live news event for 2pm ET on Tuesday, May 26, to share updates on its lunar exploration plans, with details at the agency's announcement link.
