RuntimeWire is an independent newsroom. We use AI tools to move faster across a large surface area of startup and technology news, and we are accountable for everything we publish. This page describes how we use AI in practice.
How we use AI
RuntimeWire may use AI tools to assist with:
- Research assistance — surfacing primary sources, filings, and prior coverage.
- Summarization of long documents, transcripts, and code releases.
- Transcription of public audio and video.
- Headline and dek exploration.
- Formatting, structuring, and copy-editing.
- Data extraction from filings, changelogs, and structured pages.
- Assembling source material and fact-checking routine, fact-dense story types such as funding rounds and product launches.
- Editorial workflow automation — routing, scheduling, and review queues.
Human oversight
RuntimeWire is responsible for what it publishes. Editorial judgment about what to cover, how to frame it, and what to omit belongs to humans, and automation accelerates the work rather than replacing that call.
What we will not do with AI
- We do not fabricate sources, quotes, or events.
- We do not present synthetic media as real.
- We do not create fake human bylines. The RuntimeWire Staff byline means the automated newsroom — not a pseudonymous person — is the responsible publisher. Stories under the Ryan Merket byline are ones he assigned, published, or reported himself.
- We do not use AI to impersonate real people.
Disclosure
We disclose meaningful AI involvement when it materially shapes a story — for example, when an AI tool was used to analyze a dataset that became the basis for the reporting, when the story is an explainer about an AI system using that system's own output, or when a story is published with substantially less human editing than usual. How AI fits into our workflow is described on the about page and noted on every article via the byline rather than per paragraph.
