Why it matters
Klein brings Black Forest Labs' image generation and editing capabilities to a smaller model that users can self-host, alongside an API and paid enterprise licensing. The license allows free commercial use only for individuals and organizations with annual revenue below $5 million.

Black Forest Labs released FLUX 3 Image Klein on October 15th, a 5.6-billion-parameter image-generation and editing model that the Freiburg-based lab says can run on consumer GPUs, including hardware with 8GB of VRAM in quantized versions. The launch post describes a release for developers who want to run, fine-tune or adapt a model on their own infrastructure instead of relying solely on a hosted image API.
