Why it matters
OpenAI is separating personalization from persistence: users can bring existing context into a disposable session, but saving it converts the exchange into a regular chat governed by standard memory and training controls.
OpenAI updated ChatGPT's Temporary Chat mode on August 27th, giving users the option to personalize an otherwise disposable conversation and convert it into a regular chat if it becomes worth keeping.
