Christopher Ricciuti's Noteworthy AI raises $15M to turn utility trucks into grid inspectors

An SEC filing shows 18 investors backed the equity offering, which includes converted securities and leaves $3.2M still available.

Christopher Ricciuti, founder and CEO of Noteworthy AI, has raised $15,009,995 for the New Haven, Connecticut business, according to a Form D filed with the SEC on August 26.

The equity offering has a target of $18,234,987, leaving $3,224,992 available. Noteworthy AI reported 18 investors and dated the first sale to August 12. The filing also says the amount sold includes the conversion of outstanding convertible securities, so the $15 million figure should not be read entirely as new cash deposited this month. The valuation, lead investor and participating funds are not identified.

Ricciuti started Noteworthy AI in 2020 after wildfires came within a block of his former home in Southern California. He later learned that faulty equipment on a utility pole had triggered one of the fires, according to Noteworthy AI's account of its founding. Ricciuti and his team began examining whether more frequent infrastructure inspections could catch that kind of risk earlier.

It was a practical target for a founder who had already spent more than two decades in software and applied AI. Before Noteworthy AI, Ricciuti founded two AI businesses that were later sold and held product leadership roles at Proofpoint and Veritone, according to his company biography. His latest business applies computer vision to an asset class that utilities still frequently inspect with dedicated crews.

An inspection system that rides along

Noteworthy Inspect combines cameras, edge-computing hardware and machine-learning models mounted on vehicles already traveling utility service territories. The cameras automatically identify and geolocate poles, capture high-resolution images and process the results for defects and inventory data.

Noteworthy AI says its models can identify damaged crossarms, deteriorating pole tops, leaning poles, transformer corrosion, vegetation overgrowth and equipment installed by third parties. The software can also transfer results into geographic information systems and existing asset-management tools.

That deployment model is central to Ricciuti's pitch. Utilities do not need to schedule a separate inspection route every time they want updated imagery. A maintenance truck, meter vehicle or other fleet asset can collect the data during its ordinary work, with the edge hardware processing potential problems as the vehicle moves.

Noteworthy AI says on its website the system can cut operating and maintenance costs by as much as 75%. That figure remains a company claim: Noteworthy AI has not published the baseline, inspection category or methodology needed to evaluate it independently.

The commercial footprint is easier to see, though still largely described by Noteworthy AI. Its website displays FirstEnergy, NextEra Energy, Alabama Power, Exelon, Xcel Energy, Georgia Power, Florida Power & Light, Constellation Energy and Burns & McDonnell among the utilities and contractors using or working with Noteworthy AI. The company website says the 30-person organization has evaluated more than 1 million poles. It does not attach revenue, contract values or a paying-customer count to those relationships.

Ricciuti now has to turn field deployments into repeatable sales

Noteworthy AI previously announced a $3 million financing in October 2022. That round included Earthshot Ventures, Techstars, Connecticut Innovations, Susquehanna Foundation, Keiki Capital, Boro Capital, C2 Ventures, Avesta Fund, Asymmetry Ventures, City Light Capital and Climate Capital, according to Noteworthy AI.

Earthshot Ventures managing partner Michael Jackson joined the board following that financing and remains listed as a director in the new SEC filing. Deborah Caplan, a former NextEra Energy executive, is also listed as a director, giving Ricciuti board-level ties to both climate venture capital and a large utility operator. Aram Ouligian is the fourth director named in the filing.

The latest financing is much larger than the 2022 round and arrives as grid-focused software and hardware businesses are drawing capital around reliability, rising electricity demand and constrained utility labor. Earlier in August, RuntimeWire reported that Stephanie Hendricks' AGent Energy raised an $11 million seed round to aggregate backup generators into grid capacity. Noteworthy AI addresses a different layer of the same problem: helping utilities understand the condition of the physical network before equipment fails.

Ricciuti is entering a market with several established approaches. ULC Technologies' AIM also combines vehicle-mounted cameras and machine learning to map and inspect poles and overhead assets. ikeGPS introduced PolePilot in October 2025 to automate the annotation of pole imagery and detect equipment and attachment heights. Drone, helicopter and satellite-based systems compete for adjacent inspection and vegetation-management budgets.

Noteworthy AI therefore has to win on deployment economics, coverage and the usefulness of its results inside utility workflows. Its fleet-mounted design gives Ricciuti a clear entry point: turn miles utilities already drive into inspection data they would otherwise pay separately to collect.

The filing does not say how Noteworthy AI plans to use the proceeds. The next measure of progress will come from deployments that move beyond customer logos and company-reported pole counts into recurring revenue, contract expansion and independently documented inspection savings.
