XChat Meetings prototype shows organization-only access and whiteboards

An unfinished XChat Meetings interface shows X testing link-based meeting rooms with three admission modes: open access for anyone with the link, entry limited to members of a Verified Organization, and host approval for each attendee.

The prototype also includes a participant list, hand raising and a collaborative whiteboard for shared notes and graphics. A planned screen-sharing queue would let hosts control who presents, adding another moderation layer for larger calls.

The interface appeared in a video posted on August 16 by independent X feature tester @blankspeaker. It is a preview of unfinished software, not a release announcement, and the design could change before reaching users.

Meeting links replace the group-chat requirement

X already supports audio and video calls through Chat, including group calls. X's current documentation says those calls begin inside an existing group conversation: a user opens a group DM, selects the camera button and alerts the other members. Group calls currently work on iOS and the web, with browser-based screen sharing.

XChat Meetings would change the unit of access from an existing conversation to a shareable link. If released as shown, a host could invite people who were never assembled in the same group chat, making the product more suitable for workplace meetings, customer calls and online events.

The three admission modes address distinct meeting workflows. Open links maximize distribution. Manual approval creates a waiting room for guests. Verified Organization access would use membership in an organization on X as an authentication layer, allowing hosts to limit meetings without relying on an email domain or a separate account system.

That organization control is the prototype's most distinctive feature. Established meeting products commonly restrict rooms through accounts, domains or administrator policies. XChat could instead use the relationship between an X account and a Verified Organization, connecting meeting permissions to the identity and paid organization systems X already operates.

Whiteboards and presentation controls broaden the use case

The remaining features move XChat beyond a larger group video call. Hand raising creates an orderly speaking queue, while the participant panel gives hosts visibility into who has joined. The whiteboard adds a shared workspace for notes and graphics, supporting collaborative sessions rather than conversation alone.

Queued screen sharing would give hosts more control over presentations. Instead of allowing participants to begin sharing independently, the interface could organize presenters and help administrators manage transitions during larger meetings or events.

Together, these tools suggest a product designed for structured calls: hosts distribute a link, choose an admission policy, review participants, manage speakers and screen sharing, and use a common visual workspace.

Organization access raises security expectations

X's App Store listing for XChat markets the standalone app around private conversation, advertising end-to-end encrypted messaging, disappearing messages, screenshot blocking and large group chats. Users can sign in with an X account instead of rebuilding a contact network or exchanging phone numbers.

Calls carry a different security qualification. X's help page says group calls are not currently end-to-end encrypted. It also says one-to-one calls may expose participants' IP addresses when both sides leave enhanced call privacy disabled because the call can be routed peer to peer. Enabling the privacy setting routes the connection through X infrastructure and masks the relevant IP address.

Those distinctions become more consequential for meetings involving employees, customers and outside guests. Organizations are likely to treat meeting encryption, identity controls and network privacy as core product requirements rather than optional messaging settings.

XChat Meetings would give X a route from private messaging into workplace collaboration without requiring users to create another identity or contact graph. Existing X accounts and organizational relationships could handle authentication, while shared links would extend participation beyond current chats. The prototype's admission controls, whiteboard and host tools show how X could turn that distribution advantage into a more complete meeting product.
