Why it matters

If an ad-funded agent can reliably deliver 5 free hours of coding help daily, it pressures paid copilots on price and broadens access, especially for students and teams outside top markets.

James Grugett (@jahooma) says he has launched Freebuff, a 100% free coding agent available worldwide, offering 5 free hours per day on DeepSeek V4 Flash. He announced the release in a thread on X, adding a CLI install path via "npm i -g freebuff."

Grugett is positioning Freebuff as ad-supported. In replies in the same thread, he said they are "trying to spin up a global ad network" and that DeepSeek V4 Flash is "an advance in how cheap it is," which he argues makes an ads model viable. He noted usage is unlimited in higher ad-yield countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and parts of Western Europe, with a 5-hour daily allocation elsewhere.

Feature availability varies by region. Grugett wrote that users in some markets can choose from "the best open source models," citing the UK as having full access and model choice. He also stated the launch is live globally now, calling out Indonesia as one of the countries where it is active.

Freebuff’s site is live at freebuff.com. The X thread serves as the primary announcement and includes app screenshots and short video clips of the agent in use.
