Google Gemma (@googlegemma) introduced Magenta RealTime 2, a new open model for live music synthesis, in a three-post thread on X on Thursday.

Google Gemma says the model can run natively on a MacBook with low latency and can be controlled through MIDI, text and audio. The thread frames Magenta RealTime 2 less as a background composition tool than as something "musicians can play as an instrument," a sharper product claim than the usual AI music-generator pitch.

The post directed users to download the MacBook apps from the Magenta RealTime 2 page and pointed musicians toward the Google Magenta Project (@GoogleMagenta), Google's long-running creative AI effort. Those omissions matter because real-time music tools live or die on details that are hard to judge from a social post: latency under load, audio quality, DAW workflow, controller support and licensing risk for working musicians.
