Meta opens Muse connectors so developers can plug services into its agent
The September 18th release turns Muse into a distribution layer where users can invoke outside services through natural-language requests.

Muse connectors could make Meta the layer between consumer intent and third-party services, giving developers distribution while Meta controls discovery, context and execution.

"You bring the API," Zuckerberg wrote in a post on X. Muse then decides how to use that service based on what the person asked it to do. Meta also said new connectors were live, though Zuckerberg's post did not name them.
Zuckerberg, Meta's founder, chairman and CEO, still directs Meta's product strategy. He founded Facebook in 2004 after studying computer science at Harvard. The connector release extends a familiar Zuckerberg playbook: ship a consumer product, establish distribution and then invite developers to build inside the resulting interface.
Meta introduced Muse on September 8th, 10 days before opening connector access. Muse is rolling out in the US through iOS, Android and Muse's website, and can also be reached through WhatsApp. Meta says Muse can browse websites, complete forms, connect to apps, make purchases and continue longer tasks after a user closes the app.
Muse is becoming a distribution layer
The developer opening changes the role of a connector. A service can expose an API while Muse supplies the conversational interface, user context and agent that carries out the work. Users do not need to find an app, learn its menus or manually move information between services. They ask Muse for an outcome, and Muse chooses the steps and connected tools required to deliver it.
That model offers developers a route into Meta's consumer distribution without requiring them to build their own general-purpose agent. It also places Meta between the service and its customer. Muse receives the initial request, interprets the intent and decides when a connector should be called. The connector provider may supply the underlying transaction or data while Meta controls the interface where the customer expresses the need.
Connector ranking will therefore matter. When several travel, shopping or productivity services can fulfill the same request, Muse's selection becomes the agent-era equivalent of search placement, an app-store recommendation or a default setting. Meta has not described how Muse will choose among overlapping connectors, whether users can set preferred providers or how developers will measure referrals and completed actions.
The connector program is separate from the Meta Model API, which gives developers access to Muse Spark models for building their own software and agents. Meta Model API supplies the model. Muse connectors place an outside service inside Meta's consumer agent. Together, the two surfaces give Meta a position on both sides of agent development: the underlying model used by software builders and the personal agent through which consumers may reach those services.
Connector security becomes Meta policy
Opening Muse to more APIs also widens the amount of sensitive data and account access moving through the product. Meta says each Muse runs in a dedicated virtual machine with its own browser. A separate Sentinel system reviews actions before they reach the internet, according to Meta's launch announcement.
Meta says users choose which services Muse can access and whether a connector receives read or write permission. Muse is designed to request approval before sensitive actions such as sending an email or completing a purchase, while maintaining an audit trail of its activity. Meta also says conversations and information stored in Muse's virtual machine are not shared with its advertising systems.
Those protections now have to govern code and APIs supplied by outside developers. Connector review, permission design and safeguards against prompt injection will determine whether Meta can expand the catalog without turning each new integration into another path to a user's email, calendar, financial information or purchasing authority.
For Zuckerberg, opening connectors 10 days after Muse's consumer launch starts the transition from a Meta-built assistant into a platform other services have an incentive to support. The larger bet is that people will increasingly begin online tasks by stating what they want to an agent. If that behavior takes hold, the system choosing which API answers the request will control a valuable new point of distribution.
