Why it matters
Octopus makes the agent's workspace and capabilities editable during ongoing work, pushing adaptation into the runtime itself.

Aleksandr Vechenkov (@miu21590) introduced Octopus OS in an October 24th thread on X, presenting it as an open-source agent environment where an agent can change the system it works in while a task is underway. The project is available as a research preview, with its source and build instructions on GitHub.
