Why it matters
Perplexity is bringing local inference and app actions into a subscription agent, giving users a way to handle some sensitive work on-device while retaining cloud escalation for tasks that need broader capabilities. The 36 GB memory recommendation limits which Macs can run it comfortably.

Perplexity Computer can now run its model, agent and task execution entirely on supported Apple silicon Macs, keeping work on local files and apps on the device when users choose fully local mode. The company announced the release in a three-post thread on X on October 20th, making local execution a paid feature for Pro, Max and Enterprise subscribers.
