Quantinuum cuts logical memory errors 10-fold with a new code on Helios

Quantinuum's October 19th result uses color codes on its trapped-ion Helios system; it measures quantum memory, while Apollo remains a 2029 target.

Why it matters

Quantinuum's result strengthens the technical case for its 2029 Apollo roadmap, but the benchmark measures logical memory with offline decoding, not a general-purpose fault-tolerant computer. Its commercial case depends on carrying those gains into useful computation at scale.

Quantinuum says its Helios quantum computer reduced logical memory errors tenfold by using a different error-correction code on the same hardware. The result reached 99.9995% fidelity and strengthens Quantinuum's case for reaching fault tolerance with its planned Apollo system by 2029.…
