RUNTIMEWIRE INVESTIGATION — Scoop
Original reporting by RuntimeWire, based on documents, public records, reverse engineering.
Reporting record
Finding
RuntimeWire found two working America.gov chatbot Easter eggs and a third theme trigger in the site's public JavaScript.
How we verified
Methods: documents, public records, reverse engineering.
Production JavaScript assets for the Minecraft poem and chat handler; the composer command handler; live-site screenshots of the Minecraft and FirstGov responses; and JavaScript containing the Konami-code trigger and “Hey there, 1983” text.
RuntimeWire inspected public production JavaScript assets captured on September 29, 2026, checked the Minecraft and FirstGov commands against the live interface, saved screenshots, and verified the Konami-code trigger in JavaScript.
Reproduction
RuntimeWire partially reproduced the finding.
On the live America.gov site, enter “play minecraft” or “play the block game” in the chatbot to trigger the poem. Enter “take me back to firstgov” in the homepage message box to activate the FirstGov theme; use the return button to restore the regular site. The JavaScript also identifies the sequence ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A Enter as a retro-theme trigger, but RuntimeWire did not reproduce that trigger live.

The Minecraft response opens with “I see the constituent you mean,” then proceeds through a conversation about the person using the site. One passage reads:
