Axelrod deploys AI agents across hotels' existing software
The YC S26 team is betting computer control can automate hotel work without forcing operators to replace their existing software.

Saman Sayahpour (@samansayahpour) and Adrian Lucas Tariel Stoica launched Axelrod Labs on August 6th, pitching an AI agent workforce that operates the software behind boutique and luxury hotels. The founders came to hotel operations through their families. Sayahpour grew up behind the reception desk of a Vienna hotel, while Stoica grew up in Berlin cleaning guest apartments, according to Axelrod's website. Axelrod is part of Y Combinator's Summer 2026 batch. YC lists the San Francisco operation as a two-person team founded this year, with Brad Flora as its primary partner. The accelerator describes Axelrod as autonomous hotel software, though the breadth of that autonomy remains a claim from Axelrod rather than a performance measure backed by named deployments. Agents over the existing hotel stack
Axelrod's technical bet is that hotel operators will resist another large software migration, even when they want AI automation. Instead of requiring hotels to replace their property management, point-of-sale or revenue management systems, Axelrod says its agents use computer and browser control to navigate those products through their existing interfaces.
Axelrod maps a property's operation and creates a memory layer containing its standard operating procedures and guests' histories across stays. An orchestration layer then breaks requests into tasks, assigns them to role-specific agents and coordinates work across departments, according to Axelrod's YC launch page. (ycombinator.com)
The proposed scope runs from arrivals, room operations and rate changes to access, maintenance, supplies, messaging, accounting and owner reports. Axelrod says agents begin under full supervision and receive greater autonomy after demonstrating that they can complete work reliably. That staged deployment is central to selling computer control into hotels, where an incorrect rate, missed maintenance request or mishandled guest message has an immediate operational cost.
Browser control gives Axelrod a route into fragmented hotel systems without waiting for vendors to expose APIs. It also shifts the technical burden. Agents must interpret interfaces built for human employees, preserve context across several applications and continue working when those interfaces change. Axelrod's supervision model is designed to manage that risk while operators decide which workflows they are prepared to hand over.
Axelrod says one butler using its agents can cover four times as many rooms. It also says the product is operating across four continents and is used by Michelin Key-awarded hotels and Marriott Luxury Collection properties. A two-founder hospitality bet
Sayahpour's technical background is unusually research-heavy for hotel software. His YC profile says he entered the University of Vienna to study mathematics at 14, later left Carnegie Mellon University's Logic and Computation undergraduate program, and researched causal machine learning, prediction markets, photonic computing and collective decision-making. Stoica previously researched AI awareness and co-produced Sony Music records that accumulated over 40 million streams, according to YC. (ycombinator.com)
That pairing gives Axelrod two distinct jobs. Sayahpour and Stoica must build an agent system capable of acting safely across old and inconsistent software, then persuade hotel owners that the system understands how a property actually runs. Their launch is aimed directly at executives of hotel management groups, luxury property owners, general managers and hotel technology leaders.
Axelrod is entering through operations because that is where independent hotels face the largest accumulation of repetitive work and incompatible tools. The founders are selling labor capacity as the immediate result: fewer staff hours spent moving information between systems, with employees redirected toward guests and physical work that software cannot perform.
The commercial test will be whether Axelrod can turn supervised browser automation into dependable autonomy across properties with different procedures and software stacks. Hotel operators do not need a convincing demonstration alone. They need agents that can execute routine work every day without turning each interface change or unusual guest request into another task for staff.
