Why it matters

Foundry is using venture capital to own factory capacity as well as build robotics software. Its test is whether flexible assembly can produce reliable, repeatable output across different hardware customers.

Workers in safety vests operate machinery along an aisle in a large factory; metal parts and equipment line the floor.

Foundry Robotics raised a $100 million Series A led by Marlinspike Partners, tying a large new financing round to a 130,000-square-foot Emeryville factory built for flexible hardware assembly. The October 28th announcement also names Khosla Ventures, Red Glass Ventures, SE Ventures, Wing VC, Axiom Ventures, Hanabi Capital and Zero Shot Fund among the investors. The company did not disclose a valuation.
