The announcement moves ChatGPT and Codex from software production into CAD, electronics and simulation, where errors carry manufacturing costs. OpenAI's own prototype required human correction on tolerances and assembly.

OpenAI said on November 3rd that ChatGPT and Codex are being used for mechanical design, electrical engineering and simulation work, including CAD revisions, printed circuit board design, manufacturing drawings and design review. OpenAI (@OpenAI) announced the work in a thread on X, and the company published the details in its November 3rd research post.
