Why it matters

Factory is buying team coordination for coding agents, the layer enterprises need when hundreds of engineers run agents across many repos at once.

Three white humanoid robots gather around a laptop beside a diagram-covered whiteboard; a wall sign reads “Rw.”

Factory acquired HumanLayer on November 4th, 2026, bringing co-founders Dex Horthy (@dexhorthy) and Kyle Mistele (@0xblacklight) into the San Francisco company building autonomous software engineering tools for enterprises. Factory announced the deal in a thread on X and said HumanLayer is a multiplayer coding agent IDE and cloud for running agents locally or in the background.
